Shenandoah Mountain 100

I headed back East for a few days and raced the Shenandoah Mountain 100 with my brother. A quick picture here along with the elevation profile. For anyone interested in 14,000 feet of climbing spread out over 100 miles of jeep roads and trail, I'd highly recommend it. If you're not into that sort of thing, it's still a heck of a party.

We finished in 10:55, beating our goal of 11 hours.

Funny thing about the picture - that's my bro in the front and me behind him. You can see him squinting his left eye to see. He got hit by a car a couple years ago on his road bike, and has some permanent vision damage...but he's still scary fast. I held him back the whole race.

Man, great gonig, Dave. That has always seemed like a fun race to me. Were you ready to die? I know I would. Looks like theres a real kicker after 60 miles, eh?

It's funny the ups and downs you experience in that kind of race. Kind of to be expected though, since you're out there all day and have plenty of time for mood swings. At 40 miles I was hating it. 60 - 75 I felt awesome. 75 - 85 (the crux of that big climb) I felt awful. 85 and after was smooth sailing.

I can't adequately explain how cool it is to crest that last big climb at the 95 mile mark with your only brother and jam down the singletrack to the finish line together. Unreal.
