I was pulling away from a stop sign and 'kerpow' something wasn't right. Luckily niether knee was involved.
It sure looks like a chainring bolt failed. Honestly, it could have been loose, but there was no indication, no creaking or anything. The ring completely broke off the cranks, and the backs of all the chainrings were intact in the crank. The fronts: ghandi.
4 bolt cranks really seem to suffer from losing 1 chain ring bolt. I run 4 bolts myself but really am starting to look into a good 5 bolt/square taper setup instead. Would suck to be 50 miles from nowhere and bust a ring...
