Lyons Fat Tire Fest VII Memorial Day weekend

It's once again time for the Lyons Fat Tire Fest! It's hard to believe, but this will be the 7th annual. We will do 2 rides in 2 days up 2 different canyons. This year's fest will showcase some of the best riding found within a short drive from Lyons.

The first ride on Friday will be 2-3 hours long. We'll meet up at the shop at 2 and will drive from there.

The Saturday ride will be an all dayer, meeting up at the shop at 8:30 to arrange the caravan. This ride will be a point to point so there will be some shuttle arranging. We will cover approximately 25 miles with over 3500' of climbing and over 4500' of descending. It will be 60% steep and rocky jeep road with some pristine singletrack, mostly towards the end. There will be a bailout option as well. It sounds easy, but is anything but. Expect difficult terrain and some great views. If folks are not using my name in vain by the end of the ride, it won't be a Lyons Fat Tire Fest type of ride. Gotta keep that Death March Dave nickname somehow. :)

After Saturday's all day extravaganza, we reconvene to party and cook out at the casa del Dave. I'll have a short course singletrack set up as well, so maybe we can look forward to a chicken crit or a time trial competition. We'll see...

Not to be picky, and I will still be there on Friday and Saturday, but I think that the dates are wrong. May 26th is a Saturday and May 27th is a Sunday.

Just make sure that you tell people Friday and Saturday, rather than the dates, or you will have riders showing up at the shop for a big ride on Saturday.

Either way, sounds fun. Lots of climbing is a very good thing. Can't wait...

Thanks Steve. I'll, erm, get my graphic artist on that one...

Even if i have to bailout on the bailout, I'll be there.

Debaser, you are not allowed to bail out :)

Would a full rigid fixer be welcome?

I think I can get my butt up there with some whiskey....

I'll have to catch a bus from denver and I don't drive don't know if there well be space....

Hey Cellarrat, you're more than welcome on your fixie. We don't discriminate bikes or people. The only rule is that you have a good time and no complaints. I don't think that will be a problem based on what I've heard.

Guys, is there any maps for these trails you are planning to cover ? I might not be able to make it on those days, but would love to cover some of those trails, especially the pristine singletrack.

Craig, if you can't make the Memorial Day shindig, come on out on a Tuesday to ride with us :)

Do riders need to sign up prior to showing up on Saturday? (I have had a couple of people ask). Count me in for the ride but I got a boogie before the post activities.

Jeff, this is a very informal get together. No sign ups needed, ride under your own liability, etc...

Hey Dave,
Joan and Volker's friend Jill here. Im wondering if the Saturday course is "single speed friendly". Thanks.
Jill

Hi Jill, I guess that depends on your legs more than anything. Due to the amt of folks on the ride, we'll have to start in a different location that will add another couple of miles and probably another 700-800' of climbing. There will be lots of steep climbing. The climbing will get steeper and more technical towards the end of the ride.

Hey all you single track junkies! I wish could be there this year to ride again. Have a great time and drink like the beer fish you are.
