Still Snowy!

Took the dogs up into nearby USFS today so they could run around. I was hoping to see at least a little bit of rideable dirt but it simply wasn't the case. It's going to need more sun and more time before we're heading high for dirt!  Meanwhile, the road riding hasn't been horrible...

This just in!  Boulder County is ready to move on the "Heil 2" parcel of Open Space!  However, it's not a great plan.  Not surprisingly, pedestrians get lots of trail and bikes are choked onto a single out and back trail. Please, please, please let Boulder County know that they should open all the new trails to all users. From a design point, out and back trails suck - they demand more maintanence from more use and they create user conflict.  Please click on the link below, read thru all of the comments and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave comments of your own opinion!

Dave Chase!

Dave Chase - I bet you'll be surprised to find this here...but what the hell.  Glad to see you fire up the underground again, and since I'm technically an author I can still post a draft here.  Those rides from Lyons and the tiny shop back about 2004-2006 are some of my best memories of my time in Colorado.  Just a really good group of dudes, the will to ride, and a huge forest.  I hope it's still as good now as it was then.

I'm living in Virginia now.  Married, father of 4 year old twins.  Riding a ton.  Life is pretty good.  I do miss Lyons.

Anyway, keep the stoke cranking and the fire hot.  I'll be back someday.

January 2016 update!

January 2016 - about 3 years since our last Redstone Underground Report.  Expect more from the new post Flood underground.

update.  Been fatbiking a lot..

Got a ride in at a place we hadn't been in a few years.  Signs are down so it's good to go.  Ish.  More on this later.

Put on our first bike race.  The Beaver Dick Snowduro.  Things went really well - better than we had hoped really.  Put 3/5 on your calendar for our next installment.

Snow has been good to us this winter.  Fatbikes!

More fatbikes!

That's it and I believe we are up to speed now!  Stay tuned for more.  :)

Waldrop Improvements!

Lots of great things are happening!  Check out what's going to happen to Waldrop Trail along Brainard Lake Rd.  Red is the current trail which will be returned to Mother Nature.  The Green trail will connect to Sourdough and may likely happen this summer.  Light blue trail will happen after that.  Stoked!

The Time to Klunk is Now

Transition Bikes announced in October that they would have a limited run of Klunkers available in the new year.  Well, we just got an email that they just got them in and shipping will commence shortly.  Transition is already overbooked on them but we've got a black and a white on the way now.  Better put your name on one if you want, they will be gone fast!

For the love of Formula...

Anyone familiar with Redstone and our love of techy bike bits knows that we are big fans of Formula Brakes.  After making the first Juicy 7 brakes for Avid back when they were an Englewood, CO company, Formulas design, feel, and power have continued to improve under their own moniker.

My favorite brake of all time has got to be Formula's The One.  Massively powerful, good looking, and XC light, what could be better?

We're going to find out after just installing new 2013 Formula RO brakes on our Intense Carbine demo bike and test sled.

Hall Ranch Trail Conditions 12/21

It's the end of the world so I figured I'd get one last ride at Hall Ranch.

Antelope Trail was a mixed bag of snow and dirt.

Long Time no Bloggin

It's been a while since we put up some ride stokeage, I'm sure you guys are kinda bored with no so subliminal messages about consignment bikes, right?!

How about a photo bomb session then.  Our last ride stoke post was Big Fall Ride back in Sept!  Well then, picking up where I left off...

I had to go retrieve the truck after Big Fall Ride after leaving it in the forest overnight.  Good excuse for a ride, right?

Caveat Emptor

Veloswap/Used parts PSA:

With Veloswap, ebay, craiglist, and others, there are just as many bad deals as there are good deals.  We definitely recommend that, if you're buying used, it's imperitive that A)you get the goods in your hand to look over in person and B) you or someone you know understands what you're looking at.

Case in point - A customer recently brought in a set of wheels for us to check out.  Bought them used as a smoking deal.  The wheelset was sold as used hubs in a new build.  Take a look at the 3 spokes.  One of the spokes shows several threads exposed.  The other 2 spokes have loctite or something on them to mask the fact that the threads are showing.  A good handbuilt wheelset should have all of the threads buried in the nipple.  Also, note the corrosion on the nipples.  That's something that may or may not be an issue down the road with a popped nipple head.
