Originally, the Intense Tracer VP was released with just 4 colors: raw/works, white, red, and stealth black. Intense produced a couple of super sweet limited edition colors for complete bikes -crc blue and black chrome. Due to popular demand, both of those colors are now legit color options!

I've had a lot of folks inquiring about detailed Tracer pics. Here goes. After spending the last 9 months on this beautiful machine, I can say without a doubt that it is one of my favorite bikes ever. Easily on the top 3 list. I'm off to a Turner 5 Spot next, I think. We'll see if that bike can break the top 5. :)

Intense Tracer VP for sale

I have absolutely loved my time with my large Intense Tracer VP but the time has come to part ways. It is an absolutely fantastic bike. In many ways, it's been the holy grail that I've seeked for many years. It climbs like a billy goat on crack and descends like a hot rock on a buttery slope. Without a doubt, this bike has made me a better rider.

Why move on, you ask? I dunno. Time for something different. Got my eyes on a 5 Spot now as I'd like to see how it compares. We shall see.

Just when you were able to push the thought of a new Intense Tracer VP to the back of your mind... Intense just anounced another custom color on their Tracer VP. This time it's black chrome. Think of it almost like a "works" finish in black. It's only available with Intenses XT complete build package. Check it out!

Jeff stopped in with his black beauty today. He just finished building up this stealth black Tracer VP and stopped in to show it to us after its virgin ride. He's going to make a couple more tweaks to the build but all Sam and I could say on this iteration was, "Sweet!"

More Intense News

Intense will soon be releasing a very limited production run of the new Tracer VP, called the Tracer SE.


The frames will be CRC Blue with Nickel plated links and bolts. It will be offered as a complete XTR bike with a white Fox Talas 150 RLC fork with tapered 1.5-1 and 1/18 steerer, white DT SWiss wheelset, white grips and saddle. Complete weight minus pedals is 26.4 lbs in a medium. MSRP is $5999. Get your preorder in soon, they will be gone before you know it.


Intense has also reworked their super sweet stealth black color. The new color isn't quite the flat black it was, but it's more scratch resistant. Remember the black annodized Schwinn Homegrowns from back in the day. The new stealth black looks identical.

Intense Tracer VPs in the house!

I finally got in a large Intense Tracer VP to be my new ride/shop demo bike. I've been waiting for this one for a while. In fact, after being in the bike business for a while, I guess I've become a bit jaded. Well, not really jaded but perhaps a little numb. Thing is, there are a lot of super sweet bikes out there. I just haven't been this excited about a new bike in a loooong time. I've got this set up with a Fox 32 Float 140 RLC in the front and mostly XTR and Thomson bits. Weight as pictured with Intense CC2.25 tires is 28.6.
The craftsmanship is immaculate.

Lots of cool new ideas on this bike, too. Check that the back of the upper linkage has been slotted to make it easier to assemble.

Amazing welding on the head tube. That's one of the many reason I prefer the Intense works/raw finish. There's no way to hide these welds behind paint. Besides, with welds like that, you've got to show off.



New for this year throughout the entire Intense lineup is tapered bearings with grease ports for easy lubing. Say goodbye to frozen up bearings.
Super clean cable routing, too. Nothing shifts better than full housing.
And adjustable rear travel of 5.5" or 6".
Pretty cool bike. I've got about 3 rides on it so far and it has not dissapointed. I'll have more detailed ride impressions and a more thorough review later. Stay tuned!

Woohoo! Medium Intense Tracer VPs are starting to ship finally. Looks like next week will be a good week. There's still an unspoken for black medium on the way so I thought I'd post this up if anyone is interested. I'll get some pics up when it arrives. We've got a large on the way for demo, too. Can't wait!

Intense Tracer VP coming!

Jeff Steber of Intense put a few pics up on mtbr the other day. The first production run of Tracer VPs are now coming off the line. This first batch will be for sales reps, magazine editors and the like. The rest of us will have to wait until September for the first consumer production run.
Beauty all those frames lined up.
They will come with cable routing for remote seatposts as well.

2009 Intense Tracer VP

On our Intense demo night, we had the opportunity to check out Intenses new 2009 do it all, all mountain trailbike, the Tracer VP. Wow. I had a Tracer for a couple of years back in '00/'01. It was one of the greatest bikes I've ever owned. Adjustable travel meant that it was a raceable XC bike or an all day good trailbike. Intense has reworked and massaged their sweet VPP system for 2009 with this one.

It's good to see the Tracer alive and well again.

It's got adjustable travel via the lower shock mount.

You can set it up as a trail killin' 5.5" travel bike. In 5.5" mode with a 5.5"/140mm fork it's got a 69 degree head angle, a 73degree seat angle, and a 13.5" bottom bracket.

In 6" mode, with a 160mm fork, the Tracer VP will yield a 67.5degree head angle, a 71.5degree seat angle, and a 13.8" bottom bracket.

This works finished Tracer VP was the latest prototype to be welded up. Good clearance for a big 2.25 tire, but they're still working on it.

I am personally pretty happy that this bike will be called a Tracer. When I hear "Tracer" it flips all the good bike switches in my brain. This bike did not dissapoint. It's worth resurecting the name when something this good comes along.

Intense is coming out for Tuesday Ride 7/1!

I literally just got word that our good buddies at Intense will have the demo van here for our Tuesday Ride on 7/1. We'll be meeting at the bike shop at 5:30. Get here early to get your bike, as they will be first come first serve.

We'll have Spiders, 5.5s, 6.6s, Slopestyles and even the new adjustable travel trailbike (medium only on that trailbike). New trailbike linky here and here.

The schedule I put up a few days ago called for Lion Gulch on 7/1 but we may change that. Any suggestions? Or should we stay the course?

Sooooo, here's some more tidbits on the newest bike from Intense that we are all salivating in anticipation of. It's still a prototype (mostly) but the details are beginning to iron out. The lower shock link will have 2 mounting holes that will yeild either 5.5 or 6" of travel. This will be a little brother to the enormously popular 6.6, right down to the shaped monocoque top tube and the 1.5 steerer tube.



Intense does not currently have a name for this bike yet. If you've got a good name, let them know. If Intense picks your suggestion for the name, you've won a new bike! More info on the Intense website here.
